The broadband swindle

There have been loads of problems with broadband providers in recent years. Not only do they quote a speed that is almost impossible to achieve (something which most people have caught onto by now), but many of them also tell customers that they have “unlimited” broadband, when in reality there is a cap. I think this is a disgrace, and needs to be banned immediately.

For example, on O2, old customers who bought the unlimited plan thought they could use as much bandwidth as they wanted. It turns out that under the companies “fair use” policy, any user who went over 50GB of data in a month (or something close to this, I can’t remember the exact number), was sent a letter saying they would be cut off if they did it again. I understand there is a fair use policy, but if there is a STRICT cap at 50GB, how can O2 advertise it as unlimited? Surely it should be advertised as a 50GB limit?

There are other companies with similar “deals”. People are becoming more aware for this too, so hopefully the providers will be forced to display how much bandwidth you actually get for your money. To me, this should be a basic requirement, and any provider who doesn’t do this should be charged with false advertising
